Elite Youth Camp Logistics

This is a reminder regarding camp check-in procedures as well as a reminder of what to bring, etc.  This information can also be accessed on the camp website at www.elitesoccercamps.net under the tab "Youth Camp Logistics."

Check-in for the camp will take place on Friday, June 21, between 10:30am and 12:00pm at the Brock Center Field House on the campus of Randolph-Macon College. Directions to campus can be found here: http://www.rmc.edu/visitrmc/directions-to-r-mc.  Check out will be in the same building.

Basic Directions and Parking

Once you are on campus you will find yourself traveling down Henry Street.  There are three options for parking.

 1) You can come down Henry Street, pass the fountain and turn left onto East Patrick Street into the first parking lot you see on your left.  The Brock Center will be directly in front of you as you pull in.  If the lot is full please park using options 2 or 3 below.  Please Do not double park and block another car in.

2)  You can drive down Henry Street and park in the parking lots of the Dorms on your right.  The boys will be staying in the last 3 dorms, Bennet, Smith (which face the street), and Garland (which runs behind Bennett and Smith).  You can then just walk back up Henry Street past the stadium and turn right on East Patrick Street.  The Brock Center will be directly in front of you.

3) Travel down Henry Street and go past East Patrick Street.  Turn left on Smith Street.  Turn left at the dead end then make an immediate left into the large parking lot after the baseball field or cross the tracks and park in our overflow lot.  Again the Brock Center will be right in front of you slightly across from the stadium.

Campus is very nice and luckily is also fairly compact so traveling from place to place on foot is very easy.  The camp orientation meeting will take place at 12:15pm inside the Brock Center.  Once campers are dropped off at the meeting parents/adults can depart.  After the boys begin their first session on the field no adults are permitted in the dorms unless escorted by a member of our staff.  This is for the safety of all campers. We have had parents come in before for things like birthdays etc and that is fine, we just need to know about it and arrange for entry.  Parents can re-enter the dorms at 11AM on June 24 to begin the checkout process.

Campers must bring all training gear to the meeting (cleats, soccer balls, flat bottom shoes for futsal/technical training etc.).  Directly after the meeting campers will go with their groups to their assigned fields or indoor space and begin playing.  We must be done with check-in by 12:00 in order to start camp on time.  Campers must be accompanied by an adult prior to the camp meeting.  There does not need to be an adult for every camper, as long as there is an adult responsible for the group up until the meeting time.

Note: For this camp campers are issued a Key card as well as a key.  The Key card gets them into and out of the entry doors of the dorms and the key gets them into their specific room.  *The Key Card will only work on the front doors of each dorm, not the back or side.  Access doors to the dorms are locked at all times and require the key card for entry with the exception of check in and check out when the College disables those locks for easier entry.

Rooms do not have refrigerators, so if you would like to bring a small portable refrigerator, you are welcome to do so.  Check-out for camp will be on Monday, June 24 at 11:30AM.  Water will be provided at all fields but it is recommended that each camper brings a water bottle.  Dorms have water fountains equipped to refill campers' water bottles before and between sessions.  Please be certain that your son brings a soccer ball WITH AIR IN IT (unless a ball was ordered), shin guards, cleats, flat bottom shoes (all campers must have flat bottom shoes in case we have to go indoors as well as for agility training), sunscreen, towel, bathing suit, sheets (bed size is standard twin), alarm clock, pillow, blanket, toiletries, an adequate change of clothes (I suggest plenty of dry socks and clean underwear in particular), warm clothes and blankets for sleeping as all dorms have air conditioning and can become cool at night, a fan, a large trash bag where campers can store their dirty clothes, a small trash can for the room (*not required as there are trashcans in all hallways but rooms do not have individual trash cans), spending money (cash) for our nightly pizza orders and our camp store where we will sell water and Gatorade.  (If a camper does not have money for the store or cannot find his money we will obviously give him plenty of drinks do not worry).  A large pizza is $12 and we will order pizza on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights.  Pizza is in addition to the three meals per day that will be provided in the cafeteria.  Ordering pizza is not required, but most kids do order.  Camp is generally very hot, so please send your son with enough drinks and /or money to purchase drinks at the camp store.  Cell phones are permitted.  They are not required but we have no problem with campers having their cell phone.  Cell phones can also serve the same purpose as an alarm clock.  Cell phones are not permitted in the dining hall and must be turned to silent at “lights out” so the boys can get sleep.

Day campers should not check-in until close to 11:30am.  Day campers will be given access to a room so that they have a place to store their gear so they must go through the check in line to receive a key card and room key.  With the exception of check-in, Day campers should be dropped off every morning by 8:30AM.  For day camper pick up, parents should arrive by 7:50pm.  Camp can sometimes go slightly past 8pm but not always.  Pick up and drop off for Day campers must be done at our turf stadium "Day Field” or at The Brock Center if there is inclement weather.  Day campers must be signed out in order to leave camp each day.  Please do not simply have your camper run to the car from the field.  There can be no exceptions here.  Day Field is a large lighted stadium directly across from the dorms, you cannot miss it.  We do not provide Breakfast for Day Campers but all other meals are provided.

Behavior:
This is our 15th year of operation and we have had limited issues with behavior.  We have overstaffed the camp so that there is more than enough supervision.  With that said I want to be clear that we have very high standards regarding camper behavior.  Campers are expected to respect each other, our staff, our housekeepers, and our dining hall people at all times.  Campers should arrive with clean and washed clothes.  Rooms must be kept clean.  We realize they can get a little messy as a general result of camp but we do expect the campers to make every effort to maintain a clean dorm.  Campers are expected to be on time for everything.  We will emphasize this but please make this clear to your son (especially if he is a younger camper).  Campers are responsible for their own personal items including their soccer ball.  Bare feet will not be permitted.  Campers should have comfortable shoes to travel around in and more importantly flip flops or sandals.  Socks should be removed immediately after every session so that the wet socks do not cause blisters.  The best thing to do is to remove socks and transition right to flip flops/sandals. Below is a skeleton schedule which is subject to change, however, it will give you a general idea on what we will be doing and when.
